Idaho Power’s Snake River Stewardship Program: A watershed-based temperature mitigation program
Speaker: Ralph Meyers, P.E., Environmental Manager: Water Quality Program, Idaho Power Company
Idaho Power has developed the Snake River Stewardship Program (SRSP), a watershed-based program to mitigate for the temperature effects of the Hells Canyon Complex Hydroelectric Project. To implement the SRSP Idaho Power will enhance riparian areas on tributaries to the Snake River and also develop flood-plain areas in the Snake River that will decrease summer thermal loading to the Snake River and its tributaries. In addition to temperature benefits, the SRSP is also expected to result in ancillary habitat benefits for aquatic and riparian species. This presentation will explain the process used to develop the program within the regulatory framework of Clean Water Act 401 certification, and details of program design and implementation.
